RELEASE: Will Shorter Announces Candidacy for County Council in District 2

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

7 May 2025

Community Advocate and Lifelong Resident Steps Forward with a Vision for Equitable Progress

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (May 7, 2025) — Will Shorter, a lifelong resident of District 2 and a dedicated advocate for community-centered solutions, officially announced his candidacy for County Council today.

With a platform grounded in education, diverse housing options, sustainable growth, and public safety rooted in trust, Shorter aims to bring effective, people-first leadership to the heart of local government.

“As someone who was born and raised in this district, I understand what it means to both struggle and thrive here,” said Shorter. “I’m running because I believe our community deserves bold leadership that listens, learns, and leads with integrity. This campaign is about creating real opportunities for every neighbor.”

With a background in public policy and advocacy, Will has spent years working within the district to enhance amenities for the community, such as the new Glen Burnie Library and kindergarten readiness programs. His approach blends pragmatic solutions with a passion for service, and his deep ties to the district offer a clear advantage in understanding the day-to-day realities residents face.

"I've known Will Shorter since he was a student at Glen Burnie High School. He is grounded in the

community, driven by service and committed to results,” said Ned Carey, retired state delegate and campaign chairman. “I’ve seen firsthand his ability to listen deeply, build coalitions, and bring real solutions to the table. His campaign is more than politics; it’s about possibility, and Will is exactly the kind of leader District 2 needs.”

Shorter’s platform prioritizes:

  • High-quality education and support for teachers, students, and families

  • Diverse housing options for all income levels

  • Community-driven economic development and support for small businesses

  • Environmental sustainability and infrastructure resilience

  • Public safety policies that are equitable, transparent, and responsive

The campaign launch event will be held on May 7, 2025, and all members of the community are invited to attend, meet Will, and learn more about his vision for District 2. To learn more about Will Shorter’s campaign, volunteer, or contribute, visit www.shorterwill.com.
